Pleasantville Announces Winners Of Eighth-Grade Writing Contest

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Six Pleasantville Middle School eighth graders were recognized for theirentries in the 2016 Eighth-Grade Writing Contest, an annual event formerly sponsored by the Marmaduke Writing Factory and now under the aegis of published author Joe Wallace and The Village Bookstore.

After hours of deliberation, the judges selected four winners and two honorable mentions from approximately forty entries. Wallace noted that the participants “showed an especially great diversity of interests and talents, with entries ranging from epic fantasy to thoughtful memoir to wild humor and deeply personal poetry.” 

Here are the winners, who will receive gift certificates from The Village Bookstore: 

  • Emma Carty, “January” 
  • Michael Promisel, “Sidney Hills Koala (and why they are stupid)” 
  • Owen Stone, “The Men in Red” 
  • Anu Subramanya, “Nova” 
Honorable Mentions went to the following: 
  • Paige Sauther “Another Spirit Rises”
  • Alexandra Viceroy “Why I Want to Be Friends with Big Foot”
