For the past decade, Virginia Road School has been collecting toys for The Children's Hope Chest.

The organization helps children who face difficult circumstances, including poverty or abuse. Working in collaboration with the Bronx YMCA, the VRES donations give local parents the opportunity to "shop" for Christmas gifts for their children.

Valhalla students have collected a variety of items, including toys, clothes and other necessities.

The collection period finished on Thursday, Dec. 10.

Along with holiday gifts, winter garb and toiletries, the VRES students also collected books, journals, puzzles, games, action figures, stuffed animals, dolls and lego sets.
