Richardson announced his resignation on Friday, effective Aug. 20, stating his intentions to join the DOE. That position was taken from him following a New York Post report questioning his new position and several incidents in recent months involving students.

The rescinded offer comes following a rough academic year in New Rochelle, which saw several stabbing incidents at the high school, including the fatal incident involving 16-year-old Valaree Schwab. He also reportedly has come under fire for slashing suspensions and suspicious “perfect scores” for students taking online classes whose work was incomplete.

According to a Talk of the Sound report, Richardson has been looking for a new job for nearly a year, before the tumultuous few months of student-on-student violence. He was reportedly close to earning an assistant superintendent position within the school district before the violent incidents.

An immediate search was been started for Richardson’s replacement. It is not clear if there will be an interim principal or a permanent replacement. School officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

On Facebook, New Rochelle City Councilman, a longtime supporter and friend of Richardson, posted simply, "Sad day in New Rochelle, NRHS Principal Richardson has resigned.”

It is unclear where the New Rochelle School District or Richardson stands. This story is developing. Check Daily Voice for updates.
