Local teams included students from Pleasantville, Yorktown, Somers, Ardsley, and Yonkers, with other qualifiers coming from as far away as the Bronx, New Jersey, and Connecticut. First Tech Challenge is for students from grades seven through 12 who design, build, and program their own robots based on sound engineering principles.

The robots use Android technology and are programmed with Java. Robots compete against each other and accumulate points based on performance of specific tasks within a given time frame. The Techno Chix team from Pleasantville was a standout finisher this year among the local teams.
