EASTCHESTER, N.Y. -- Sherman Park had just seized the momentum and lead in the bottom of the fifth inning and was prepared to close out Dobbs Ferry, Wednesday. However, Dobbs Ferry had an answer for Sherman Park, with John Archer letting his bat speak the loudest.
Archer crushed a grand slam, highlighting a five-run sixth inning as Dobbs Ferry rallied to an 8-4 win in a District 20 Little League Baseball Majors losers bracket game at ORourke Field. Dobbs Ferry, which lost to Sherman Park, 1-0, in the first game of the tournament for both teams, will play Harrison, Friday, 5:45 p.m., at Valhallas Pat Henry Field.
Archers home run cleared the fence in right center, earning runs by Lou Tobacco, Andrew McKeown and Chris Kulusic. Sean Fleming scored the first run of the inning on a force out that was overturned after the umpires discussed it. I couldnt have been prouder of the boys, Dobbs Ferry manager Mike Archer said. Danny DiRusso started us off with a great at-bat, seeing eight pitches before walking.
Archer said he was proud of his team, but none more so than his son, John. Kulusic hit a solo home run to lead off the game and added a two-run rip in the second inning. Sherman Park closed within a run, 3-2, with two outs in the third inning.
Ben Yamuden and Nick Sica scored on a two-out single by Tom Cosentino. The Sherman Park first baseman took two quick strikes before lining a ball off the third-base bag. Sherman Park would take the lead, 4-3, with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Sherman Park played another awesome game, Mike Archer said. And their No. 5 hitter [Cosentino] can hit.
