Valhalla Junior Vikings Ready To Play Football

VALHALLA, N.Y. ? The Valhalla Junior Vikings hosted teams from four other communities in a Westchester Youth Football League Kickoff Scrimmage in preparation for Sunday's opening day.

Teams from Armonk, Tarrytown, Bronxville, Cortlandt and Valhalla played three games simultaneously on Valhalla High School's turf field as fans from the five communities cheered.

The league includes players in the first- through sixth-grades. Each town was represented by two teams, with Bronxville bringing more than 60 players.

The Valhalla Vikings fifth- and sixth-grade squad, led by quarterback Brody McGuinn and represented well by Sebastian Pacheco, Joey Pecora, Jordan Rush, Ritchie Nagashima, Francesco Falco, Elias Gonzalez, Ethan Brooks and John Menona, JJ Gooden and Marco Mazza, was strong on both sides of the ball.

"It was all a result of the guys on the front line," McGuinn said of his offensive line. "They make it seem easy because they dominate the line of scrimmage. Those guys deserve all the credit.”

Coach Keith Foisett was pleased with the performance of his Junior Vikings third- and fourth-grade team, led by Cade Canas, Mahari Davis, Keith Foisett, Mikey Dawson, Stevie Spoda and the Caldarolla brothers, Matt and John. The younger team showed off the skills they have mastered after weeks of hard work.

Foisett noted that while the offense is still working on implementing more of the playbook, the defense was outstanding. Foisett's defense is anchored by “Big Jack” Sullivan, who, Foisett said, "looks like a Division I college player."

The Junior Vikings will host a full slate of games against next door neighbors the Westlake Wildcat Football Club Sunday at Viking Stadium, beginning at 8 a.m.
